Abstract

This article aims to analyze the need for regulation, in Brazil, of large technology companies (Big Techs), given the role they have assumed in the social, professional and political activities of individuals. Based on national and foreign doctrine, the impact of the rise of these corporations on fundamental rights will be studied, as well as the respective democratic risks that this implies. Some regulatory models will be analyzed, regarding content moderation and the use of new technologies such as algorithms and artificial intelligence, already implemented or under discussion in Europe, the United States of America and Brazil. In the end, we will seek to demonstrate the reasons why the regulation of the activities of these companies is a fundamental part to avoid democratic setbacks.
