NOTES ON ECONOMY, DEMOCRACY AND CONSERVATISM

Abstract

Intellectuals such as D. Harvey (2008), P. Mirowski (2013), P. Dardot and C. Laval (2016) focused on the most varied cases and times of capitalism crises. In common, it is possible to notice a pattern of capitalist self-defensive behavior when its contradictions get out of control and threaten the existing order. Economic agents (market) intervene in the State to maintain the system, and not to remedy serious social issues; This was the case in the 1929 crisis, with the New Deal, or in the subprime crisis, in 2008 – when the State operated transfers of public resources to private niches through incentives for production and consumption. In the moral field, there is a resurgence of conservatism. The essay that follows seeks to reflect on the intersection of conservatism, economic crisis and democracy
